TUTICORIN PORT WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE 29thALL INDIA MAJOR PORTS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT HELD AT TUTICORIN PORT
The 29th All India Major Ports Basketball Tournament under the aegis of Major Ports Sports Control Board and Tuticorin Port Sports Council was conducted in a very grand manner from 9th to 11th February, 2010 at Tuticorin Port Ground. Kolkatta, Vizag, Chennai and Tuticorin Port Teams participated in the Tournament. The Tournament was inaugurated by Commandant Udhalsingh, Commanding Officer, Indian Coast Guard Station, Tuticorin.
Tuticorin Port Team won the Championship beating Kolkatta Port Team in the finals conducted on 11th February. Kolkatta Port emerged Runners. Chennai Port got 3rd place.
Commodore Subash Gadhvi, Naval Officer incharge (Tuticorin) Naval Base, INS Kattabomman, Tirunelveli was the Chief Guest for the Valedictory function. He distributed Prizes to the successful Teams. The event was well attended by large number of Sports enthusiasts. It was widely covered by Electronic and Print Media. The Tuticorin Port Sports Council under the Patron-ship of Shri G.J. Rao, Chairman, Tuticorin Port Trust made very good arrangements for conducting the event.
